This is a picture of a covered bazaar in Tunis. I have been to the enormous covered bazaar in Istanbul and it is quite the experience: there are hundreds of little shops, most selling basically the same things – leather goods, brass souvenirs, tea, silk etc and if you pause to look at anything the shopkeeper will approach you and offer it to you for a price. Then let the haggling begin. If you walk away they begin to lower the price, usually reaching 50 percent off their original offer by the time you are almost out of earshot. Since most of the shopkeepers sell basically the same thing, competition is fierce and you can get some good bargains. But it is also very tiring.
